Dr. Chanchal Bhattacharya
Dr. Chanchal Bhattacharya is an esteemed senior management specialist in Veterinary Medicine and One Health, boasting a remarkable track record of over three decades in the Indian government sector. He possesses extensive knowledge and skills in risk assessment, risk analysis, livestock-related antimicrobial resistance, rabies control, animal birth control, and disaster management in animal husbandry. He currently serves as the Country Lead for the USAID Transform project at Heifer International. Previously, he held positions with the Government of Delhi as the District Animal Husbandry Officer in New Delhi and as the Member Secretary of the DSPCA.
Dr. Bhattacharya possesses a vast knowledge and experience in the field of clinical veterinary medicine. Additionally, he specializes in the control of contagious illnesses in cattle and the management of zoonotic and transboundary diseases that are of great importance both nationally and internationally. He has played a pivotal role in managing outbreaks such as Bird Flu (H5N1) in Delhi and is actively engaged in the NADCP for FMD and Brucellosis as a Nodal Officer.
He is a member of various technical and core committees, such as the Technical Expert Group on Zoonotic Diseases under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He is actively involved in initiatives like Rabies Free Delhi, 2030. As a One Health specialist, he works closely with the Delhi Development Authority and the Environment & Forest Department, specifically concentrating on the management of water bodies and the detection of avian influenza. Dr. Bhattacharya also acts at the capacity of an invited faculty member at IIT Kharagpur. Additionally, he works as a consultant on several One Health projects.
